Turmeric has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years. Curcumin, the active polyphenol compound found in turmeric, has earned serious scientific attention over the last decade, particularly in sport and exercise science. But marketing has outpaced the evidence in places. Here is what the research actually shows, and why we built CURCUMIN ADVANCED+ the way we did.
Inflammation is not the enemy
When you train hard, especially with eccentric-heavy work like downhill running, heavy squats, or high-volume cycling, you generate controlled muscle damage. The inflammatory cascade that follows is a core part of the adaptation signal. Cytokines spike, satellite cells are recruited, tissue is repaired, and you come back stronger.
The problem arises when inflammation is excessive, chronic, or poorly timed. For athletes training twice a day, competing in multi-day events, or managing cumulative load across a long season, inflammation that lingers beyond its useful window becomes a performance liability. Delayed recovery, persistent soreness, systemic fatigue, and chronic joint stress that compounds over months and years.
The goal of anti-inflammatory supplementation in sport is not to eliminate inflammation. It is to modulate the duration and magnitude of the inflammatory response so recovery is faster without blunting the adaptation signal. This is where curcumin's profile is genuinely interesting, and where most curcumin supplements fall short.
The bioavailability problem
Standard curcumin powder is exceptionally poorly absorbed. It is virtually insoluble in water, undergoes rapid breakdown in the gut and liver, and oral bioavailability from unenhanced curcumin is estimated at less than 1%. That means a 500 mg standard curcumin capsule may deliver negligible active compound to systemic circulation. The dose on the label does not reflect the dose reaching your tissues.
Why we use Theracurmin®
CURCUMIN ADVANCED+ is formulated with Theracurmin®, a patented Japanese sub-micron particle delivery system that has been clinically shown to be up to 42 times more bioavailable than standard curcumin powder. By reducing curcumin to an optimised particle size, Theracurmin® disperses evenly in fluid and is absorbed more readily by the body, meaning the active compounds actually reach the tissues that need them.
Combined with BioPerine®, a standardised black pepper extract that further supports absorption through the gastrointestinal tract, CURCUMIN ADVANCED+ represents one of the most evidence-backed curcumin formulations available.
Who it is for
CURCUMIN ADVANCED+ is designed for athletes managing joint load from high training volumes, those experiencing exercise-induced inflammation or delayed onset muscle soreness, and anyone who has not responded to standard turmeric supplements. It is particularly relevant during high-volume loading blocks, competition congestion periods, and recovery phases where managing inflammatory load is the priority.
